WYNETTE YAO
Wynette Yao is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker with decades of experience creating images and telling stories. Whether working on narrative or documentary projects, Yao’s strength lies in capturing emotion and moving audiences.
In 2023, working with the FAMM Foundation, she released the feature doc “District of Second Chances,” which premiered at Dances with Films NYC and was featured at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles and the DC Independent Film Forum in Washington, D.C. The film won “Best Documentary” at the Rehobeth Beach Film Festival and appears on PBS.
Among the many films Yao is proud to have directed are “The Vanishing Trial” (Winner of the Bronx Social Justice Festival “Best Documentary” Award), produced for the FAMM Foundation and available on Kanopy; “Who Betrayed Anne Frank?” (Winner of the Gold Remi Award, Worldfest Houston Film Festival) for the Discovery Channel, and “The Mystery of the Mummy Murders” (Winner of a Telly Award) for the National Geographic Channel. Each of these films features historically-accurate recreations filmed with a large cast and crew.
